Day 24: po' boy pizza and grandpa on a jet ski
To-day-was-awsome-period. There's always good days and always bad days, today was no doubt about it a stupendous day. Erik gave me a book that is no joke the greatest book I've ever read, and I'm only on page 44. It's about a boy who is a shepard and keeps having dreams about a treasure in Egypt. He ends up listening to the voice that tells him to quit his job, give up everything, and pursue his true destiny. I feel like this book was made for me because I have such an easy time relating to the shepard in the book. Even though being a shepard is what he knows, he knows that it's not his calling and he was put here to do bigger things. Sometimes it's hard to give up what you know and are attached to but one day you might realize it's too late and you're just going to grow old and die. We're not perfect and we make a boat load of mistakes and will continue to do so. But as long as we follow our guts and listen to our inner voice then nothing can stop us and the universe will allow us to grow.
Anyway I'll get off my soapbox now and tell you about the day. I woke up on concrete but surprisingly well rested. I got a river bath and was ready for action. We ended up after 2 miles having to stop and recharge phones and water but stopped at the perfect place. An old river rat named ed gave us coke cola, ice cream, and cold water, as well as the most obsurd stories and jokes you'll ever hear. Ed says "how do you make a kentucky girl laugh on saturday?".... "welp, you tell her a joke on wednesday!" He had dozens more keeping us well entertained for about an hour.
After saying farewells we got to a dam and lock 2 miles down. After the lock we literally hit light speed in the canoe. We got 7 miles in less than an hour*(as opposed to our normal 3mph). We ended up in a town the mark Twain used to frequent and got some food. I ordered a special new orleans po boy pizza in honor of the journey. Best pizza I've had in a long minute.
After that we continued to hit the turbo button cranking up to 8 miles an hour. We ended up getting 24 miles but that was after a verrry late start, 2 long delays, and too much funny banter about grandpas. We seen a guy like 80 flying on a jet ski and lost it. I envy that guy, hes like me, doesn't give a lock what anyone thinks.
Lastly, we are 8 miles from Madison, indiana at THE best camp spot I've had this whole time, it looks like something from a movie. Actually it makes sense because this adventure feels like a movie every day.
Welp, that that. Hope yinz had a great day and remember to listen to your gut.
